As a young adult, saving up money to travel is hard enough, but what other challenges will you face when booking your next adventure? Rachel Haynes investigates.
Peta, STA Travel: This year its just been a pretty shocking year, I think. Prices have increased like noticeably compared to say travelling last year.
Rachel Haynes: As prices soar, Peta from STA travel is speaking to more and more students who are struggling to get overseas.
Peta, STA Travel: It’s mostly for expenses before you leave Australia, so a lot of the expenses overseas are still the same, it’s just the flights and, like the pre-booking stuff that you need to get done thats actually increased a bit.
Rachel Haynes: Student and avid traveller, Nina Harriott, is all too familiar with these problems…
Nina Harriott: Particularly just getting overseas is a massive hurdle. I went to Europe three months ago and it was a real struggle saving up, plane flights, and insurance and accommodation, it all adds up really quickly. And it’s just really difficult for uni students particularly, who are trying to do their studies, and do paid work and often internships and things, it’s really hard to find the money. I think it’s really important that students and young people especially just get out and see the world and it would be a massive shame if financial struggles and difficulties in budgeting just get in the way of some of those amazing experiences.
